La rue Luberlu, circus company

Presentation

La rue Luberlu is a circus company from the Côte d'Azur based in Nice. For over twenty years, according to its creations, it has offered shows (street, young audiences, family, general public, ambulatory) and visual acts (artists' platforms, cabarets, events). It also sometimes works on a commission for an event. In parallel with its creation and production activities, the company is involved in the transmission of circus arts (cultural mediation, discovery days, introductory or advanced training courses, etc.) for a variety of audiences (schools, adapted, circus schools, leisure centers, parents/children, etc.).

Since its creation, around forty artists (circus performers, magicians, actors, stilt walkers, musicians, dancers, directors, photographers, scenographers, etc.) and show technicians have worked on one of our creations or one of our events in PACA, in France or abroad.

Brief history

The company was created in 2000 in Nice, by three artists (Manu, Prune and Sarah) at the end of their training at the Annie Fratellini circus school (Paris). Rue Luberlu quickly found a permanent home in one of the buildings of the former barracks of Saint Jean d'Angely ¹ in Nice alongside the Collectif "de La Brèche" and the Collectif "des Diables Bleus". There she will create her first street shows, shows for young audiences, and ambulatory shows.

In 2004 the city of Nice requested the expulsion of the artists to allow the extension of the university. Three companies then created the association L'Entre-Pont ² and signs an agreement with the City of Nice to occupy the Halle Spada. La rue Luberlu is not part of L'Entre-Pont but it will later benefit from an agreement with L'Entre-Pont, which will allow it to rehearse in a room alongside the contemporary theater companyLe grain de sable ³ with which a multitude of collaborations will take shape.

We will leave the adventure of the Halle Spada and L'Entre-Pont, shortly before their moves to the former slaughterhouses of Nice, renamed the “Chantier sang-neuf”. The regular artists and technicians of the company being dispersed on the territories we regularly change rehearsal locations for more or less long work sessions in diverse and varied places sometimes quite far from the cultural sector.
